Patrick Kiel – St. John’s University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Undecided but leaning toward Computer Science

Final list of colleges:  St. John’s, Providence, Salisbury, Villanova
Reasons for choosing St. John’s:  “I loved the campus, it’s a top Division One school, the coaching staff is great, and right when I stepped on the campus, I could just tell this is where I wanted to be. I’m a city guy too, and New York is a 50-minute subway ride, and that was a big perk of St. John’s.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse?  “I started playing in ninth grade, and that’s considered late for lacrosse players. I didn’t really think I was going anywhere – I just played to play a spring sport. I never played a sport in spring because I was a big football player. Once I started really getting into it, I fell in love with it, started playing in the summer. When you go to tournaments, you start getting looks through that. Just of thought of continuing playing at the collegiate level – it’s a big deal, and it’s something I wanted to do.”
Coach Matt Coverdale says:  “Patrick is a physically strong and athletically quick combination that makes him a real asset on the defense. He’s a hard worker in the weight room and has committed to our offseason program and has really developed as the years have gone by.”

Clark Hawes – University of Tampa (Lacrosse)
Major:
International Business
Final list of colleges:  Tampa, Adams State (Colorado)
Reasons for choosing Tampa:  “I definitely love the warm weather – I’m ready to not spend another winter in Pennsylvania. I just loved the campus, the old plantation style. It’s very beautiful. I liked the lacrosse team too, so it was the all-around best choice.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse?  “They reached out to me about a year-and-a-half ago. I didn’t really know much about the program. They saw me play over the summer and contacted me. Eventually, I visited the campus a couple of times, and I really liked it.”

Coach Matt Coverdale says:  “Clark plays midfield for us, and he’s one of the most versatile midfielders we have. He has the ability to dodge and score with both his left hand and his right hand, so he is very difficult to defend. He has impressive agility and first step quickness that will make him a difficult matchup for a lot of teams.”
