On Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, Central Bucks West senior Emmi Simon was recognized for committing to continue her track and cross country career at the University of Maryland.

Reasons for choosing Maryland: “Ultimately, I decided on Maryland because I really liked the team and the coaching style and the area. They have a really great business program for me to explore my options when I’m there, so I think I’ll be most successful within the sport and academically there.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track and cross country at the collegiate level? “I played soccer most of my life until freshman year, and then I just happened upon track because I really enjoyed the running aspect of the sport. Once I started seventh grade in middle school and once I started getting more competitive in ninth grade, I realized that’s what I wanted to pursue.”
Coach Kevin Munnelly says: “From the beginning – in her freshman year, Emmi formed that core nucleus, especially in cross country but even more in track and field. We were undefeated in cross country in league competition for four years and District One champions twice. She was the nucleus of that team. Let alone her 4x800 and 4x400 contributions indoors and outdoors - they were state champions more than a few times. She’s a fantastic runner - committed and very disciplined. As a person, you can’t find anyone with more sterling qualities than Emmi. Emmi has been an ideal character leader for our team all four years, so I’ve been really happy to know her and see how dedicated she is as a student and also as an athlete.”
