Tom Tubinas – Arcadia University (Swimming)

Major: Computer Science

Final list of colleges: Arcadia, Immaculata

Reasons for choosing Arcadia:  “I was considering Immaculata at the time but because of COVID, that was the only school I was thinking of going to. Then I saw Arcadia and how close it was to Philadelphia. It was more location to me. Arcadia has a nearby train station in walking distance. I feel like the swim program was a good fit. I met the team, and they have this really good energy. The second I went there I felt welcome, and I was like, ‘I have to go here.’”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level?  “My freshman year I knew I wanted to swim in college because it would keep me in shape. I was originally looking at D-2s and D-3s, and I just kept on working.”

Coach John Foff says:  “Tom has been a great team leader this past year. With COVID and everything that’s gone on, Tom has definitely stuck it out. He has some issues outside of the pool that take away from his focus, but he has managed to be an important part of the team, keeping kids in line and organizing events. One of the great things Tom did this year – he helped organize a charity event we did for a local foundation. He really helped talk to them and reached out to them. I’ve appreciated Tom these past four years and his joy for the sport of swimming, and his leadership has been great.”
