On Thursday, Feb. 16, 202, Central Bucks West senior Bill Zentmayer was recognized for committing to continue his basketball career at Penn State Harrisburg.

Bill Zentmayer – Penn State Harrisburg (Baseball)

Major: Business

Final list of colleges: Penn State Harrisburg, Franklin & Marshall

Reasons for choosing Penn State Harrisburg: “I loved the coach, they have a really good baseball program, and it was very cost-effective.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “I got into baseball when I was young, and I felt like – ‘Let’s see how far it can take me.’ College is a step in that journey.”

Coach Brian Weaver says: "I was working a camp after my first year as head coach, and a kid comes riding up in his baseball uniform with his baseball bag and a lunch strapped to his back. And when we say, 'Hey, riding the bike to baseball, you must really want it!' he says, 'I didn't have a ride, and there's no way I'm missing baseball!'
“So that was how I met Billy. And the first impression he gave me as a rising ninth grader was exactly who he is as a person. Nothing is going to keep that guy from working. If he's not at practice, he's getting swings. If he's not getting swings, he's doing speed work. If he's not there, he's lifting. Bill has a tremendous engine, and he's about as good an example as you'll find of the benefits of hard work. It's completely unsurprising he winds up at a great baseball school. He's the sort of guy that you want your own kids to grow up to be as athletes.
“More than that, he's a great locker room presence. He's done everything we've asked at any position, in any part of the lineup. And he's a five-tool guy that played a pivotal role for us last year. Even when he was battling his way back from an injury this year, he was at workouts doing what he could do. He was at practice doing the things he's capable of until he got back to 100 percent.
“And that's exactly what you'd expect from a kid who would rather ride his bike with all of his equipment than miss a day of baseball. As a coach, you realize every day that you see him that you need to be worthy of a guy like that, because it's not every day you get a Bill Zentmayer in your program. "
