Alexis Crosby – Syracuse University (Track)

Major:  Kinesiology

Final list of colleges:  Syracuse, Penn State, Pitt

Reasons for choosing Syracuse:  “When I went there with my parents for an official visit, there was just so much love from the coaches and just from people who graduated from there. It just felt like a safe environment and a healthy environment for me to continue on with track and also, most importantly, continue on with my academic career.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I always wanted to run track. I started in middle school - my dad wanted me to start because he ran earlier, so it was always kind of our goal since I started to ultimately get a scholarship and for track to be the reason I’m going and being able to pay for it. I committed about a month ago, and ever since then, I’ve felt great about my decision.”

Coach Jerome Lowery:  “One of the things about Alexis specifically is her leadership – her drive and her willingness to be supportive. She not only leads by example, she’s also a very vocal leader. A lot of the girls look up to her and not just because of the fast times she’s run, but it’s also her drive and how tough she is mentally in practice, and that translates well to her races.
“From both Brielle and Alexis, I see this wonderful leadership. It’s a special culture at Cheltenham for track and field, and that’s just because of the athletes themselves. If you can get them to take control of the team and you can be there to just manage what’s going on, that’s how the team will sustain itself for many years and many seasons.”
