Brielle Lewis – Fordham University (Track)

Major: Marketing/Advertising at Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business

Final list of colleges:  Fordham, Barnard College

Reasons for choosing Fordham:  “What made me ultimately choose Fordham was first the Gabelli School of Business. I thought it would be a really good balance between academics and track, and I liked the atmosphere of the campus and the team.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “When I started running track, I wasn’t the best on the team, especially with this team. I was more focused on academics. Sophomore year I got a lot better, and I thought maybe I could run track in college. It’s almost a shock to me that I actually get to run D-I track.”

Coach Jerome Lowery:  “Brielle has overcome some obstacles and some circumstances, which is the nature of track and field. She loves challenges and she usually runs straight into something that is hard. I know we had a personal conversation about her training and how that’s been going so far, and she said this amount of training is more than she has done previously, but she feels stronger and knows it’s going to help her. Hearing that from a senior lets the underclassmen know that it may be difficult now, but it will be an even better result in the end.
“From both Brielle and Alexis, I see is this wonderful leadership. It’s a special culture at Cheltenham for track and field, and that’s just because of the athletes themselves. If you can get them to take control of the team and you can be there to just manage what’s going on, that’s how the team will sustain itself for many years and many seasons.”
