Justin Sutton – Elizabethtown College (Basketball)

Major:  Communications, Journalism, Sports Management

Final list of colleges:  Elizabethtown, Rosemont, Immaculata, Holy Family

Reasons for choosing Elizabethtown:  “I chose Elizabethtown because it is an elite liberal arts school. The academics here are fantastic. I can earn a degree and continue to play basketball. I wanted to go to a basketball program that was going to let me start and be one of the main contributors right away. Elizabethtown is a small, quiet school with a calm, relaxed setting. This kind of environment is most suitable for me because it allows me to focus academically with limited distractions. The smaller environment also allows easier access to faculty. The Division 3 level allows me to be a two-sport athlete and still maintain a high GPA. Coach Schlosser is an exceptional coach, and I feel that his coaching style is the best for me. I’ll fit in perfectly at E-town.”

What was progression that led you to playing basketball at the collegiate level?  “I’ve been playing organized basketball since I was eight years old. My father always told me that I had the skill set to play on the collegiate level, and that became my goal. In the middle school, I began to play township basketball in addition to playing for the school team. Throughout middle school and high school, I spent numerous off-seasons playing AAU, spring and summer leagues and basketball camps. Now I’m more than ready to play on the collegiate level.”

Coach John Timms says:  “I’m excited for Justin and his family. This was something we talked about when I first came to Cheltenham and Justin was a sophomore. He, his dad and his mom - we sat down, and I told him one of my goals was to make sure their son would be in a great school with the opportunity to continue playing basketball. We’re all elated that he’s going to continue being a student-athlete at Elizabethtown.
“I think his best basketball is ahead of him. Justin is a mature individual who can get along with anyone. That in itself will help him at the next level. I think Elizabethtown is a great environment for him. It’s conducive to how he navigates his regular life. He’s not going to experience any type of cultural shock, he’s not going to experience anything that is any different than what he normally does, so that was important. I think the transition is going to be a smooth one for Justin, something he and I also talked about because other schools were interested in Justin, but the social part was the most important part that he’s able to remain himself.”
