Phylicia Wilkov – Yale University (Softball)
Major:
Economics/Mathematics
Reasons for choosing Yale:  “I chose Yale because I wanted to play softball at a competitive collegiate level while also receiving an outstanding education. Yale’s prestigious curricula, strong athletic programs and diverse student body make it a perfect fit for me.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “I have been playing travel softball since I was nine years old. When I was in eighth grade, I started to think about playing softball in college and began attending softball recruiting camps at various colleges. I also played in many college showcase tournaments throughout the East Coast with my travel softball team.
“My education is very important to me, so I focused on trying to get recruited by colleges with strong academic and athletic programs.”
Coach Greg Heydet says:  “Phylicia is one of our captains, and she’s great with everyone, a great friend. She works hard in academics and sports. She’s just a joy to be around, and she’s a great teammate. She’s a very good hitter, and one thing about her is she’ll play wherever the team needs her. If you asked her where she’s going to play this year - we don’t know. She’s that talented. She has two or three positions she’s going to be playing.”

Melanie Wilkinson – Rider University (Softball)
Major:  Science
Final list of colleges:  Rider, Drexel, Central Connecticut State University, Saint Joseph’s, Indian River
Reasons for choosing Rider:  “I really liked the campus and coach/team.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “When I was younger, I always thought about playing Division One softball. The recruiting process started when I was in ninth grade. It was a difficult and stressful process. I had offers from D2 schools, but I stuck to what I wanted and got it.”
Coach Greg Heydet says:  “Melanie is a hard-nosed player, and she’s a captain for the second straight year. The last two years she’s matured as a teammate and a player. Both Melanie and Phylicia could carry a team. Melanie is going to play third this year. Last year she went out of position to help the team, but we have a good squad coming back.”
