CR South Trio to Play Collegiate Soccer

On Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, Council Rock South seniors Jesse Magee, Maria Buonomo and Kasey Schlupp were recognized for committing to play soccer at the collegiate level. To view photos of the event, please visit the Photo Gallery.

“These seniors, along with the rest of their senior class, will leave a lasting impact on our program,” coach Nick Heim said. “Their willingness to create a family atmosphere and put team goals ahead of their own is something that is critical to the success of a program. We are incredibly proud of the players they have become, but more importantly the young women they have become. Each individual was involved in our community with more than just soccer, ranging from other sports to student government to Athletes Helping Athletes. They truly are well rounded individuals that we are proud to call alumni!”

Maria Buonomo – Mount Saint Mary’s University (Soccer)
Major:
Undecided/Business
Final list of colleges:  Mount Saint Mary’s, Loyola (Md.)
Reasons for choosing Mount Saint Mary’s:  “I was choosing between Loyola (Md.) and Mount Saint Mary’s, and I kind of was set on pursuing soccer at Loyola. The head coach (of Mount Saint Mary’s) met me, expressing how he was interested and asked me to do an overnight, so I gave him a chance. I had never heard of Mount Saint Mary’s, and it was a small D1 private Catholic school. I was like, ‘I might as well go (visit) for the experience,’ and I’ve never felt more connected to a team or a coach. The community of the school is just amazing. I come from a big family – I have seven sisters, so I was looking for a feeling like that. I met the girls and I automatically felt like I was one of them. These girls – I can see myself playing here and being a Mountaineer.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “I have seven sisters, and the oldest (Sarah Buonomo) was a goalkeeper at Boston College. My older sister Michaela played soccer at Loyola, and my sister Lola played at Penn State. I’ve always looked up to my sisters not only for the people they are and how kind they are to others but because they showed me that if you work hard at something, you get results. I kind of admired going to their games, watching them play and score. It was just a different thing. You walk around the campus and you get to represent your school. I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. I’ve been playing soccer since I was as young as I can remember, and I kind of followed in the footsteps of my sisters.”
Coach Nick Heim says:  “Maria was perhaps the most vocal of our seniors, continuously encouraging teammates both on and off the field. No matter what the situation we found ourselves in, Maria would always remind the team that if they stuck together, they could overcome anything. Maria's game will fit in nicely at the next level as her aggressive style and ability to attack on the outside is something that translates well to D1 soccer. Even more exciting is Maria continues her career at Mount St. Mary's, where the head coach is a CR South alum!”

Jesse Magee – West Chester University (Soccer)
Major:
Exercise Science
Final list of colleges:  West Chester, Delaware, Temple, Bloomsburg
Reasons for choosing West Chester:  “The coach and the program she has been building are the perfect for me as a student and an athlete. I feel incredibly lucky to be given this opportunity.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “Ever since I started playing soccer, I’ve had a growing passion for the sport. Playing for Ed Leigh at FC Bucks has been an amazing experience for me. Getting to play in front of college coaches made me more determined to become the best player I could be. Joining CR South’s high school team continued to push me to be a better player. Kimmy (Francis) pushed me in practice and on the field to reach my full potential as a player. Nick (Heim) gave me the confidence I needed to become the athlete and person I am today.”
Coach Nick Heim says:  “Jesse was a centerpiece to our attack over the last few seasons. She had a unique ability to find gaps between defenders and beat players one on one. As a two-year captain for our program, she was a vocal leader as well as someone who led by example, constantly working on her own to better her craft. She brings pace and an incredible work ethic to West Chester University.”
About Jesse:
Favorite food:
Chicken Parmesan/Caesar Salad
Favorite movie:  The Blind Side
Favorite music:  Country

Kasey Schlupp – Philadelphia University (Soccer)
Major:
Occupational Therapy
Final list of colleges: Philly U, Temple, West Chester, Quinnipiac
Reasons for choosing Philly U:  “The reasons I chose Philly U is because it is a good mixture of competitive soccer, and I will also get a good education.
What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level?  “Lots of practice and hard work. The recruiting process started around my sophomore year as I would be traveling to many tournaments on the weekends.”
Coach Nick Heim says:  “Kasey is the epitome of how we want to build our program. Starting on the JV team as an opportunity to get more playing time her freshman year, she worked her way up to the varsity roster for her freshman playoff campaign as was one of our top players during that playoff run. A center back who sees the field well and welcomes the challenge of shutting down other teams go-to players, Kasey will be an asset to a defensive corps at the next level. Kasey has a knack for finding the ball on set pieces, scoring critical goals throughout her career, including both set piece goals against CR North on her Senior Night.”
About Kasey:
Favorite food:
Chinese food
Favorite movie:  Cheaper by the Dozen
Favorite music:  Country

Kylie Rayher – Moravian University (Soccer)
Coach Nick Heim says:  “Kylie was an all-league center back who, along with Kasey, was the keystone of our defense. She's a tenacious defender who thrives under pressure, and brings a physical presence and leadership that is tough to match. Dangerous on set pieces as well, Kylie often found herself creating the attack with her distribution from the back.”
