Reasons for choosing Coastal Carolina: “I have always loved down South, and I’ve always loved the beach. Coastal Carolina has a really good business program, so I want to explore that. When I visited, it was an immediate connection. I met the team, I met the coaches, and I just felt a part of the team already. I just knew when I visited that nothing would have been able to compare with it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in cross country and track at the collegiate level? “I think the determining factor was as I started running more. When I started freshman year, I never really had the thought in mind to run in college, but then I saw that my times kept improving. By the end of sophomore year when I went to districts – after that, I saw all the times for college, and I was like ‘why not email schools?’ Coastal was the first school I emailed, and they got back to me. I was like, ‘Yes, let’s try it.’”
Coach Joan Thornton says: “Marisa has had such a positive influence on CR South's running program. Her competitive spirit and drive to give her best effort during workouts and races was a great example for her teammates to follow. It's unfortunate that Marisa was unable to enjoy her final spring track season, but despite that, she will go down as one of the best female distance runners that CR South has had. I'm confident she will have continued running success at the collegiate level for Coastal Carolina. The 6K and 8K XC races and the 5K and 10K track events at the D1 college level will play to Marisa's strengths. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her.”
