Mary Kate Simpson – Iona College (Lacrosse)

Major:  Education

Reasons for choosing Iona:  “It was the perfect place to not only continue my academic career but also compete in the sport I love.”

What was the progression that led you to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “My first lacrosse team I ever played on I was in third grade. The coach was a senior at Council Rock South planning on attending/playing at Bucknell in the fall. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to be just like her. I’m lucky enough to be finishing my high school lacrosse career with the same coach I started with.”

Coach Madison Hurwitz says:  “Mary Kate is fabulous. She’s a leader on and off the field. She takes freshmen under her wing and works with them outside of practice. She comes early and stays late. She’s trustworthy, she’s my go-to. Any task I throw at her, she handles with enthusiasm. She’s responsible, and she’s dedicated.
“She’s got the softest hands on our team. She’s got very good stick work, very good shot placement, and she’s also our lead defender, so I’ll utilize her on both ends of the field this year. She’s a two-time captain. She had 17 goals last year – I’d like to see that number doubled.”
