Lauren Crisler – American University (Basketball)

Major:  Business/Communications

Final list of colleges:  American, Fordham, Lafayette, Lehigh, Penn

Reasons for choosing American:  “I chose American University because I thought the school was a very good academic school, and competing in the Patriot League, they have a very good balance between academics and sports.
“I played with the team, and with my style of play, I knew I could fit in really well with them. Also, just the connection I had with the coaches and the players – they were the most welcoming.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball at the Division One level?  “The thing that led me to want to play basketball in college was my freshman year playing for the high school varsity. I also played AAU, and I had a great AAU coach.  That year colleges started sending me things in the mail saying they had seen me play in AAU Tournaments. I talked about it a lot with coach (Steve) Chapman from Fencor, and he thought I could go D-1.”

North Penn coach Maggie deMarteleire says:  “Lauren was pretty shy and quiet when she first came, but she was very skilled and has always been very, very coachable. She’s grown into a really tremendous leader. She’s not over the top vocal, but she does things the right way in every aspect of her life, and people just follow her.
“I’m just very proud of Lauren. She has been a pleasure to coach. She’s the ultimate teammate, and she’s so smart – you can play her anywhere. I’m hoping she has a great senior year and will go out with a bang.”

Fencor AAU coach Steve Chapman:  “One of the best things about Lauren is she’s not done yet. A lot of kids at this level have reached who they are, but she still has room to grow. She’ll continue to get better. She’s gotten better all four years I’ve been fortunate enough to coach her. She really does have a terrific upside, and she’s a great, great kid to coach. She’s pushed herself to develop her skills. It’s one thing to practice them and another thing to do them in the game. She really just put that all out there – I’m going to keep working, I’m going to keep trying things, and I’m going to get better at all these skills.”
