Daria Edwards – Towson University (Softball)

Major: Biology

Final list of colleges:  Towson, UMBC, Hofstra

Reasons for choosing Towson: “I had to look beyond softball, so it definitely had to have my major. Also, the team, the environment – I love the coaches, the girls are really nice, and it’s a beautiful campus.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “Growing up, I watched my older sister play. When she was in high school and going through the recruiting process, I thought – I want to be just like that.
“My freshman year I sent out e-mails, and in my sophomore year, I got more involved and went to camps and clinics. That was a big year for me.”

Coach Joe DiFilippo says:  “Since Daria was in ninth grade, she was a leader on the field. We put her down to jayvee as a ninth grader for half the year, and she hit so many home runs –all I ever heard was, ‘Daria hit a home run. Daria hit two home runs. Daria hit another home run.’ I had to bring her up. She has been a go-to girl ever since I brought her up. When she was younger, if ever I needed a pinch hitter, Daria was the one. She has started since she was a sophomore.
“She is strong offensively and defensively. She’s not a one-dimensional player. In 10th grade, she was my catcher, and she was an all-league catcher. Last year, I started her at shortstop and then moved her to third base. She was an all-league shortstop. If she had played one more game at third, she probably would have been an all-league third baseman. This year – who knows? It’s not decided yet, but it doesn’t matter where she’s at – she’ll be a force. You know what, I won’t be able to replace her.”
