Randy Frankenfield – York College (Baseball)

Major: Business Administration

Final list of colleges:  York, Lynchburg, Penn State, Elizabethtown

Reasons for choosing York:  “I’m so familiar with the area. It’s comfortable. My brothers went there, and that was actually deterring me a little bit, but I was confident enough in my ability that I don’t really care what anyone else might think. I love the school. It’s the perfect size for me, and I want to play baseball.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball?  “I probably started thinking about playing in college last year. My sophomore year I pitched varsity and did fairly well. What really sealed it and made me know I was going to play baseball was last year’s playoff game at Garnet Valley that we won, and after that, I just knew.”

Coach Shannon Gunby says:  “Randy was our starting quarterback for football, but meanwhile, he was our number one pitcher on the mound the past two seasons. Randy is just the ultra competitor. With that being said, this year he was undefeated on the mound until his only loss in the district playoff game against Downingtown West. He really just carried us on his back on the mound this year.  Randy just finished off a great American Legion season with Mount Carmel and was named the MVP of the Greater Norristown American Legion League.
“All three of these guys (Frankenfield, Greg McDonough and Bill McFarland) are just high academic kids. They were leaders in every facet, showing our younger guys the way to go about high school in general with academics, their character and also athletics.
“We will miss Randy on the mound. He was a major plus last season as a junior and went down to Garnet Valley and beat Garnet Valley. He went against the number 52 draft pick in the (MLB) draft, and Randy shut that kid down. York is getting a steal. He’s going to be a big time pitcher for them. He’s following his brothers – both of them went to York, and he really liked the campus. He’s another great kid.”
