On Thursday, May 12, 2022, Hatboro-Horsham senior Joe Martini was recognized for committing to continue his wrestling career at Ursinus College.

Joe Martini – Ursinus College (Wrestler)
Coach Trent Mongillo says:  “It’s no easy task to become a college wrestler. Some three percent of graduating seniors across the country move on to wrestle at the next level. Joe represents an exceptionally small number of about 7300 student-athletes that wrestle in college. Joe posted an impressive 23-9 record this year with 15 falls. He was a two-time regional qualifier, a three-time all-league selection, third at districts, two-time captain and a four-year varsity letter winner. It’s not always about the winning and losing. Sometimes it’s really about the lessons we learned along the way. Joe has so many characteristics that have close ties to an elite high school athlete – above average intellect, tremendously hard worker - evident by his physique and technical ability on the mat. And he’s a proverbial student of the game. Joe also lost 15 pounds to compete this season at 145.
“Joe may have failed to reach his ultimate goals in high school, but his true grit is a testament to the enduring ups and downs of a season and life – persevering through adversity, failing and continuing to try again, overcoming illness and rehabilitating injuries. Time and again Joe Martini has been able to conquer his ultimate foe – himself. He’s improved from each and every setback, and he’s continued to get better each and every year. There’s no quit in Joe. His moxie is unmatched. Joe leaves us with an incredible hole to fill, both in the practice room and in the lineup. I wish him nothing but continued success on the mat and in the classroom. He’ll be towing the line next year at Ursinus. Joe, I know the best successes for you are yet to come, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.”
