Jaynie Black – Millersville University (Softball)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Millersville, Misericordia, Alvernia, Lafayette

Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “It was a perfect distance – it was an hour and a half away. When I toured there, I loved the girls on the team, and I just loved the campus. It was just a perfect fit for me.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “I started softball at a very young age, and I just loved playing it. My freshman year of high school I joined a competitive club team that really emphasized trying to pursue a career in college in softball. That’s really when I started thinking about it.
“I started e-mailing and researching colleges my freshman year, and my sophomore year I started doing showcases where I talked to coaches and everything started to roll.”

Coach Joe DiFilippo said:  “Jaynie played second base for us and was first team All-SOL. This year she is one of my captains. She – like Jen Cader – has put a tremendous amount of work into making herself better. This is special to me because she is going to Millersville and following my daughter (Danielle DiFilippo) and also because she plays for me all year round in travel, so I’m excited about this.
“Jaynie is a leader on the field. All the young kids look up to her. She never shies away from helping a kid. She hit over .400 last year and was pretty much a unanimous choice as a first team second baseman.  She makes all the routine plays and every once in a while comes up with an outstanding play. All you can ask from somebody is to make the routine plays and give an effort on the outstanding ones. You know what – she made all the routine plays and every once in a while came up with an outstanding play that got us out of a big inning. I can’t wait to see what she does this year. Hopefully, she can build on what she did last year.”
