Jen Cader – Kent State University (Softball)

Major: Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Kent State, University of Connecticut

Reasons for choosing Kent State:  “Every time I went there, I learned something new. The team and coaches were very welcoming, and I loved the campus. It was just a perfect fit.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “My freshman year I joined TNT Gold, and when they asked me to join, it was a reality check – is this something that I really want to do? I knew it was going to be one of my goals to do that, but I wanted to ask myself if I would have the work ethic and everything, and I just really wanted to do it. I persevered and kept working hard.”

Coach Joe DiFilippo said:  “I remember when she came in as a freshman, and I have never seen a kid put so much work into not only being a player but being a leader on the field. To see the difference from ninth grade to 11th grade was unbelievable. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does this year.
“She does everything well. There is no weak part of her game. The jumps she gets on fly balls in the outfield – she’s two steps ahead of everybody on a fly ball. Her arm – I’ve seen her pick the ball up against the fence and throw a strike to our cutoffs without even looking. She’s probably one of the best outfielders ever to come through Hatboro, and she hit close to .600 last year. She’ll be an asset to any university. She’s also unbelievable in the classroom.”
