Raechel Holden – East Stroudsburg University (Softball)

Major:  Undeclared

Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “It wasn’t really a hard decision. It was nerveracking because I didn’t know if I would get into East Stroudsburg. My coach talked to their coach. I went up to visit, and the coach said she wanted me to play softball. I fell in love with it, and I didn’t want to see any other school. It was beautiful, and it felt like home.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “I’ve wanted to play softball in college since I was little. I started realizing last year I could do it. People said I had potential, but my grades were the biggest thing. (Before that), I had never really thought about it. I just went out and played. It still hasn’t hit me that I’m going to college and playing softball.”

Coach Ellie White says:  “Raechel was a four-year starter for us. I put her on jayvee her freshman year because of her attitude, but after our team went to Florida, we came back, and I realized I needed a second baseman. I brought Raechel up, hammered about 25 balls at her, and she made every play flawlessly. I kept her up ever since, and she changed her attitude. We don’t mess around up there, and she definitely learned a lot from that, being a freshman on varsity. Ever since then, she’s been a starter.
“Raechel has great range, she has a great arm, and she’s not afraid to get dirty. Offensively, she’s one of those kids who just wants to hit. She takes it one pitch at a time. She’ll bunt if she has to, she’ll sacrifice herself to get the run in. She’s one of those kids who will do anything that’s asked of her. She works hard. She just loves playing – she loves the game. We’ll miss her next year. It will be tough filling her shoes, but I hope she will continue her success at the next level.”
