Sydney McNutt – Wagner College (Soccer)

Major:  Business or Finance

Final list of colleges: Wagner, Cornell, Lehigh, UMBC

Reasons for choosing Wagner:  “I wasn’t interested at first, but once I stepped on the campus, I just fell in love. I liked that it was D-1, I liked the proximity to Manhattan to get involved with the city. I actually liked that the classes are small, so I can focus and get to know my teachers. When I went up for my overnight, I already had a great connection with the girls, so that was a big reason as well.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer?  “At about U14, I switched to the club team FC Delco, and pretty much what they do is they help you through the college process. After playing with them a few years, I knew I wanted to pursue my goal of playing in college after playing at such a high level for the club.”

Coach Kate Lamplugh says:  “Sydney is another person who has had a lot of control in the midfield, but we’ve been able to move her around a lot. She’s logged some minutes on defense as our sweeper. We’ve moved her to the outside, so she’s super flexible when it comes to play on the field. Tactically, she’s one of the best players I’ve seen. She’s great in the air, and she’s great with her feet. She’s a special kid.”
