Abby Mummert – Shippensburg University (Volleyball)

Major:  Elementary Education

Final list of colleges:  Shippensburg, Clarion

Reasons for choosing Shippensburg:  “I want to study elementary education, and they have an elementary school on campus. I really liked the school. The coach was great, and when I went to their camp, everyone was so welcoming. It’s Division 2, so it fits the balance of school and volleyball that I was looking for.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate volleyball?  “I have been playing club volleyball since I was 13 years old. I think around my freshman year I realized – I will not be able to live without this sport.”

Coach Ulana Keer says:  “Abby really spent a lot of time training and learning the game on her own personal time and club time. From that standpoint, when you have somebody who cares so much about the game and enjoys it so much – she also started at a very young age, which helps. There are a lot of things in place, and she’s a great athlete. When you look at her size, when you look at her speed, her quickness, her agility, all those things that define a superior athlete – she’s got. When you are training and doing the things you need to do to increase your volleyball skills, that’s the result that you get. You have a kid who’s just all-around good. She’s coachable, and she was a good leader for the team. She’s competitive, she wants to win, and she wants to compete at the highest level.”
