Jimmy Murphy – Marist College (Lacrosse)

Major:  Business or Physical Therapy

Final list of colleges:  Marist, Marquette

Reasons for choosing Marist:  “When I went on my overnight, everybody talked about how it was a family, how we’ll always be together. It just felt like home when I got there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “The summer between sophomore and junior year I had a really outstanding summer in lacrosse. I started getting D-3 letters, and it progressed to D-1. I figured with my grades and athleticism – not to sound cocky - I could do this.”

Hatboro-Horsham coach John Kurek says:  “Everything we’ve done since he was a freshman – he’s done to 110 percent. Going into his senior year, he’s already been named captain because he had the troops rallied and ready to go. When he plays football, size and strength count. When it comes to lacrosse, you don’t have to be the biggest kid to play, so he used what he has. One of his best attributes is his speed, so if he uses his speed, you know what kind of team speed you have. He’s at the front of the line, and that’s always good to have.
“In his freshman year, he started on the varsity level and played defensive midfielder, and that is the no-glory position on the lacrosse team. From that point on, he was a program kid. He committed to the weight room, he committed to speed training, and he committed to his stick both in season and out of season. By his junior year, he went from a defensive midfielder to an offensive threat. That’s where he stands now. He was first team all-league, and for everything he did, he worked for it. He’s a model program player.”

Former Hatboro-Horsham coach Dave Sowers says:  “Jimmy (is) exactly what we talk about – work hard and good things will happen. That’s why he will be successful in life. Coach Kurek and I get to look at kids coming up in summer camp, and there was always something there, and it was always his heart. No matter what his size – it didn’t matter. It was the size of his heart. I’m just privileged - as I know coach Kurek is - to know him and to watch him grow into the man he is today. HIs mom and dad (are) supportive parents – this is what you get.”
