Carly Coleman – Monroe College (Softball)

Major:  Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges:  Monroe, Daytona State
Reasons for choosing Monroe:  “I liked the city. It’s a junior college in New York, and the coach is what sold me. She’s awesome.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “I was really young when I first started looking at colleges. I was a freshman when my sister was a senior, and that’s when I really started looking when she was looking.”
Coach Dave Chichilitti:  “Carly has been a varsity player since the first day she stepped on the field as a ninth grader. She actually practiced with the jayvee a couple of times, and we saw how good she would be, and we brought her up immediately. She’s been a cornerstone defensively of our outfield. We’re going to count on her to play a bigger role offensively this year, but defensively, she’s anchored our outfield and made some amazing plays. Carly has an excellent personality. She’s a great teammate and a great kid.”

Koraima Dudley – Chestnut Hill College (Softball)
Major:
Undecided
Final list of colleges:  Chestnut Hill, Cabrini, Kutztown
Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill: “The campus was beautiful. All the people I met were so nice and very welcoming. I loved the program, and I knew one of the girls on the team.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “It’s always been a question in my mind because I’ve been playing for so long, so it’s always there. I finally decided last year that I wanted to play.”
Coach Dave Chichilitti:  “Nina is an interesting story. She didn’t come out as a ninth grader, and she came out her 10th grade year and played jayvee. Last year, she was primarily a defensive replacement for us, but we’re going to count on her to anchor our defense this year in the infield at the shortstop position. She has such a dynamic glove. We have a lot of talented girls that were suppressed last year because of the abundance of talent, but we have some great athletes that people are going to see play this year.”

Jennifer Walker – Mercer County Community College (Softball)
Major:
Physical Education
Reasons for choosing Mercer:  “I have a chance to stay home, I was getting a lot of money, and I love the coach.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to play in college. I started thinking I could do it my sophomore year. I loved the sport, and I knew I wanted to keep going with the sport. I didn’t want to stop.”
Coach Dave Chichilitti:  “Jen Walker came up as a freshman. She went right to jayvee, and halfway through the year, we realized the talent we had in Jen, and we brought her up to the varsity team. Initially, that role was just for her speed and her running, but last year, she came out and played an awesome right field for us. She’s going to be one of our leaders and one of our best players this year. She had by far the best game of anybody in that state final last year. She had two great hits. Mercer doesn’t know what they’re getting. Jen Walker is going to be a great collegiate player.”
