Bri Hewlett – Chestnut Hill College (Basketball)

Major:  Computer Science

Final list of colleges:  Chestnut Hill, Albright, DeSales, Ursinus, RIT

Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill:  “I chose Chestnut Hill because I just felt it was the right fit. The team and coaching staff really made me want to go there.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “I’ve always known I wanted to play a sport in college. I didn’t know if it was going to be soccer or basketball, but I kind of decided when I got to high school in ninth grade that I wanted to play basketball in college.”

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from playing sports?  “I learned perseverance. Everything is not going to go your way and you’re going to fail, but you’ve got to keep trying.”

Coach Maggie deMarteleire says:  “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Bri for four years, and she’s had a very successful career, but more than that, her work ethic is second to none. She works her tail off all the time, 365 days a year – lifting, running. She was injured this year and went up to Bloomsburg the day after Christmas to get treated by this ankle guru, and she came back and was almost 100 percent. She’s a good student, she’s been solid, and she’s been a pleasure to coach. I’m so happy she’s going to Chestnut Hill because my daughter – when she graduated from college – was the head coach at Chestnut Hill, and that’s where my daughter met her husband, so I have a special place in my heart for Chestnut Hill. I also have to say she has wonderful parents who have been so supportive of Bri, our team and our coaching staff the whole four years. Again, it’s just been my honor to coach her.”
