North Penn's Webb to Play Soccer at Thomas Jefferson

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, North Penn senior Jamie Webb was recognized for committing to continue her soccer career at Thomas Jefferson University.

Jamie Webb – Thomas Jefferson University (Soccer)

Major:  Nursing

Final list of colleges:  Thomas Jefferson, West Chester

Reasons for choosing Jefferson: “I chose Jefferson because I really liked the coaches and the campus.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate soccer? “Ever since I started soccer when I was three years old, I always wanted to just play.”

Coach Mike Rio says: “I have had the pleasure of coaching Jamie for the past four years. It was also the four years I’ve been with the varsity soccer team as the head coach. I think all coaches can probably relate - that first day of tryouts, you’re always hoping that there’s someone new, someone you haven’t seen before that steps up and shows out, and that’s the way it was with Jamie at that first tryout freshman year. Within 30 minutes, I was like – ‘That girl’s a varsity player,’ and it’s fantastic. Then you just hope they have all the intangibles. Jamie has all the technical abilities and everything you want in a soccer player, but it’s more about the intangibles that really make her stand out. Her leadership, her effort, her ability to motivate her teammates – she’s been a captain on the team the past two seasons.
“Jamie has played center back, outside back, and although most of her accomplishments don’t necessarily show up on the score sheet or the stat line, when we were successful as a team, it was because our defense was successful. She was an anchor back there for us. When we won, we won games 1-0 or 2-1, and it was entirely because of the way our defense played. Jamie is selfless. Just this year we had 12 seniors, and obviously, everybody knows how important Senior Night is for all the girls, and as a captain and four-year player, Jamie came up to me 2-3 weeks before Senior Night and said, ‘Hey, Rio, it’s okay if I don’t start Senior Night, so all my teammates can start.’ That just shows the kind of person, player, teammate that she is. That is not something that’s easy to do for anybody, and we all know how important Senior Night is, and to be that selfless and let her teammates take that spotlight, it shows what kind of person she is. Jefferson is super lucky to get not only such an amazing talent on the soccer field but to get such an amazing person. Jamie will be sorely missed.”
