Bryce Hoch – Penn State University (Diving)

Major: Electrical Engineering

Final list of colleges:  Penn State, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Buffalo

Reasons for choosing Penn State:  “I chose it mainly because I felt like I would fit in quite well. The team was really welcoming, and the school was really nice and beautiful as well. Not only that but also for academics.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “I always wanted to go to college to dive to further what I can do and try and improve.
“(Competing in a sport) connects you with another group of people, so you’re not alone. You have people with like interests that you can relate with.”

Coach Kyle Goldbacher says:  “Bryce Hoch is quite an athlete. He’s got a lean muscle mass and quick twitch response that translates well into the sport of diving. He’s got an explosiveness that has enabled him to develop a dive list with a higher degree of difficulty than any high school athlete in the State of Pennsylvania. He started diving 13 years ago, and he’s always been a good competitor. The real transition took place when he decided he wanted to invest in the sport of diving, and he started to mature and grow into his body at which point he developed a three-meter dive list and started to explore the Junior Olympic circuit. He’s tasted a lot of success from that point.
“He’s a three-time state qualifier, two-time state finalist, and we have good things planned for this year. Last year he was named All-American by NISCA, and he’s going to be competing in the Big 10. It’s a very competitive conference, and all of our recent Olympians have come from that conference, which he will be competing directly against. If anybody has the ability to meet that challenge, it’s going to be Bryce.”
