Scott Parker – Lehigh University (Wrestling)

Major:  Business

Reasons for choosing Lehigh:  “It felt like the perfect fit, and I’ve wanted to go there since I first started wrestling.”

What was the progression that led you to wrestling at the collegiate level?  “I started wrestling when I was five years old, and I’ve stuck with it and excelled ever since then.”

Coach Dan Goetter:  “He’s a great kid. You couldn’t ask for a better wrestler to have, a better person to set an example. It’s just great having him here. We got him as a freshman, which was my first year. He’s been great showing kids how you’re supposed to handle yourself as a wrestler and how you’re supposed to work in the wrestling room. It’s just been great having him show the younger kids what’s expected of them and what they need to do to be a great wrestler.
“Just having someone like him, getting the recognition for our school and just showing the kids that it’s possible for anyone from any school to be a state (medalist). When they see it happen, they can have their goals set.”

Assistant coach RP Norley:  “The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Scott is class act. “There are not a lot of people to compare him to. Until some kid comes along to prove me wrong, he’s one of a kind, for sure. His work ethic and dedication to the sport and the way he handles himself off the mat – his character, his integrity, his morals. The kid has been raised the right way. You have to give credit to his parents because it seems to run in the family. They’re doing something right in the Parker household.
“Everything he does is 100 percent. When it comes to his wrestling technique, his training, his lifting, he never stops. He’d work out seven days a week if we would let him. He’s got what it takes. He’s a special individual, and he’s done so much for our program. Since Dan and I have taken over four years ago, we’ve tried to really develop a culture with the community. When our younger kids look up to someone like Scott, it paints a very clear picture of the path to success and what you need to do to get there. It’s really easy as a coach to say, ‘Just follow Scott, and do what Scott does’ because he does everything the coaches ask him to do year round. As far as what he’s done for our program, you can’t speak enough about it. He’s really done an outstanding job of catapulting our whole team and the Pennridge program.”
