Ben Chinnici – Ball State University (Volleyball)

Major:  Risk Analysis

Final list of colleges:  Ball State, Penn State

Reasons for choosing Ball State:  “Ball State’s campus is significantly smaller than Penn State’s main campus. It’s a good medium-sized campus. Not that Penn State’s players were any different, but Ball State’s players were awesome guys, and the coaches were really good, knowledgeable guys too.”

What was the progression that led you to playing volleyball at the collegiate level?  “I played seven years of club volleyball and four years of varsity volleyball at the high school. My sophomore year in club season after nationals, I didn’t talk to hardly any coaches, but this past year after nationals for club season, it seemed like a lot more coaches were coming to me and talking to me about playing. Ball State came up and talked to me – I had no idea who or where Ball State even was, but they talked to me after nationals, and I looked into it. Everything just kept going from there with them.”

Coach Dave Childs says:  “Ben played club with us before high school, so I knew him before he was in high school and knew if he stuck with it and kept a good head on his shoulders, he’d be a good player. He’s a good kid. He’s a leader, and he’s a great teammate. It’s those things that I think separate him from a lot of good athletes or good players on the court. He has everything. He could play any position on the court at this level. He’s on another level from a lot of players.”
