Joe Molettiere – Monmouth University (Baseball)

Major:  Business or Education

Final list of colleges:  Monmouth, Radford, UMBC, Stony Brook, Marist

Reasons for choosing Monmouth:  “Monmouth is an awesome school. I love the coaches – I’ve actually been talking to them since last September, so it’s been over a year of communication, and I’ve developed a really good relationship with them. They have a really nice baseball field. I know some guys that go there, and right when I stepped on the campus, it had a home feel. It’s only two hours from home, so my parents can come to my games, and I can come home if I need to, and it’s also a half mile from the beach.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “I actually went to my first showcase June 17 of my sophomore year. We had just finished our state run. I hadn’t played because I was only a sophomore, but I threw very, very well at the showcase, and I decided – maybe this is for real. I was invited to a really big showcase in Indiana, and the first school to actually talk to me was Monmouth. It was a pretty cool thing that I ended up there.”

Coach Tom Nuneviller says:  “Joe is just an athletic kid. On the basketball court, he can jump, he can leap, he’s quick, he’s athletic, and having an athlete on the baseball field is a good thing. With him out there on the mound - he had a really good year last year. He had good velocity, throwing in the mid 80’s at the beginning of the season and in the summertime he got in the mid to upper 80’s. We’re going to definitely count on him this year to give us a lot of good innings.”
