Kari Moyer – Providence University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Providence, Albany, Monmouth

Reasons for choosing Providence:  “I chose Providence because of the well-knit team they have, and I really loved the coaching staff. They’re both very supportive, and you can tell they really care about their players, so that was very important for me. Their academics are very good, which was also important. Their program also is decent.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey?  “I play club year round. Going into my freshman year, I was on jayvee, but then I played club and that really (propelled) me to the next level, and I started varsity as a sophomore. Club is where I put in my off time. Also, I train with Katie O’Donnell, and she really took my skills to the next level this past year.
“I always knew I wanted to play a sport in college since middle school. It’s in my nature to play a sport. I can’t imagine going somewhere and not playing.”

Coach Becky Spahr says:  “Kari is a player who just loves the sport of field hockey. Because of that, she puts a lot of time and effort into her game in the offseason. On the field, she has amazing stick skills. She can find the back of the net when she needs to. This year she really stepped up as a leader for our team and has really helped out with making sure the younger girls have developed in the program as well.
“To be a great college athlete, you have to put in the effort, and that’s her best feature is that she’s always working to get to the next level. She’s never content with where she’s at. She’s always getting better every year I’ve been with her.”
