Billy Bethel – Chestnut Hill College (Baseball)

Major:  International Business

Final list of colleges:  Chestnut Hill, Misericordia

Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill  “When I went on the visit for the overnight, it just felt like home. I know a couple of guys that go there right now, and they just made it even better. The campus is beautiful, and the baseball team is pretty good, so that helps.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “All along I knew I wanted to play college baseball. I just didn’t know what school. I started getting looks late junior year and in the summer, and it started progressing mid-fall of my senior year.”

Coach Joe Pesci says:  “As a sophomore, he was part of the first league title in 19 years, and we had a senior starting at third base for five games who quit, and we threw Billy Bethel in there. The first play of his career was an error, and after that, it was just gold. He was an all-league selection at third base as a sophomore, which was great, so going into the 2016 season, we knew we only had two seniors, but we did have a mainstay of a bunch of guys like Billy who played a lot.
“Billy hadn’t pitched at all for us in ninth or 10th grade, but we knew we were going to have to use him a lot his junior year, and he ended up being our best pitcher last year. He’s the type of kid who does whatever it takes for the team. We moved him from third base where he was all-league to first base because we wanted to protect his arm a little bit, and he did a great job there too. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes, he throws sneaky hard, but he has a very good curve ball. He’s able to throw multiple pitches for strikes, which is such a positive thing for a team.”
