Meghan Dressel – Bloomfield College (Softball)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Bloomfield, UMBC, West Chester

Reasons for choosing Bloomfield:  “I did an overnight with the girls, and the team was really welcoming and nice. I really loved the coach. I also like how it’s a smaller school, and it’s close to home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I always wanted to play in college since I was little. I would watch college softball on TV, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I was actually getting looks when I was really young - when I was 12-13 years old. They changed the NCAA rule and they can’t talk to you until junior year. That was when I was really considering playing in school.”

Rock Gold coach Rick Waye says:  “Meghan did a great job. She worked really hard. She’s very competitive, and she has a lot of ability. She dedicated herself, she wanted to play in college, and mission accomplished. She has natural ability. Last year at the University of South Florida at the Xtreme Dimensions Veterans Day Tournament – she was lights out. Her velocity was consistently around 63 or 64, and she turned a lot of heads that weekend. Everybody was wondering – who is this kid throwing for Rock Gold? She threw very hard down there and had one of her best weekends, so you can see the potential. She has a chance to be consistent at that speed. I like her commitment to trying to get better, and she’s just a pitcher. She worked really hard at it. She comes to practice all the time and does everything we do. Meghan is very coachable. I just like her velocity and the way she mixes her pitches up. When she’s locked in, she can dominate. Phil Delgado, her coach at Bloomfield – I think he’s going to specialize her and use her as a pitcher only, and that’s okay because that’s what she wants. Right now she’s pitching every week, focusing on what she has to do.”
