Olivia Herman – Fordham University (Crew)

Major:  United States History

Final list of colleges:  Fordham, University of Pennsylvania, La Salle, Bucknell, Lehigh

Reasons for choosing Fordham:  “Fordham gave me the opportunity to marry both academics and athletics. They offered me a variety of different majors in which I could explore the field that I was interested in as well as the fact that it was located within New York City. The location itself really opens a lot of doors for me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in crew at the collegiate level?  “I started doing crew the end of my eighth grade year, so it’s been four years since I started. When I started out, I was on a really small, really local team, and once I shifted over to PNR (Princeton National Rowing Association) in Mercer, I was offered a broader perspective of the rowing community. To be able to compete at the high level I was able to in high school - towards the end of my sophomore year, I started looking at the opportunities of our other program alumni and seeing where crew was taking them in terms of higher education, and they were a really big inspiration for me in seeing this was something I could achieve for myself and for my future.”

PNR coach Matt Carlson says:  “Lulu was a great asset to the team this year. My favorite aspect of having her as a coxswain was her attention to detail. Lulu always wrote everything down in her notebook, and nothing was ever missed with regards to a workout, drill, or circuit. I am excited to watch her progress over the next four years at Fordham.
