Kyle Marshall – Philadelphia University (Baseball)

Major:  Business Management

Final list of colleges:  Philadelphia University, Bloomsfield, York, Widener, Millersville

Reasons for choosing Philly U:  “Just going there on my overnight and spending time with the team – they’re really close. They were all working for the same goal, the coaching staff was friendly, and I liked the campus feel.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “When I was a freshman, I started seeing kids going away to college and deciding where they were going. I have always wanted to play, and it’s just the next step.”

Coach Joe Pesci says:  “He will be a four-year starter, and at the catching position, I don’t want to say it’s an anomaly, but it’s a very tough position to crack into the lineup at a young age. Not to mention, he’s usually the smallest kid on the field, but he’s one of the toughest. He has really matured a great deal from his freshman year until now. His freshman year you could see a little hesitancy. He was a little tentative. Last year especially, he really stepped up. The tenacity he had as a catcher and he’s such an incredible receiver for us – it’s a difference maker.
“I’m sure he’s been told his whole life (that he’s small), and people have said it to me. I said, ‘Pound for pound, he’s one of the best – if not the best catcher in the league.’ He might not have the strongest arm in the world, but he has a great release, and he keeps us in games. It’s a testament to his work ethic and his drive, and maybe a chip on his shoulder.”
