Nell Webber – Boston College (Field Hockey)

Major:  Biology or Math

Final list of colleges:  Boston College, Lehigh, Lafayette, Yale, Northeastern, Penn

Reasons for choosing Boston College:  “I really liked the city and the campus, I love the coach, and I really wanted the opportunity to play in the ACC.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started looking at the end of freshman year. Penn was always my dream school, and I started looking there. Sophomore year is when I really went to recruiting (events), and that’s when most of it happened.”

Coach Jamie Parell says:  “Mel was a standout player going back to middle school with her skills and her determination. She was wavering between soccer and field hockey for a really long time. I really put that to her middle school coach, who persuaded her and worked with her on her skills and drills and just asked her to stay with it. I’m really glad she did because she’s been a standout since her freshman year, and she just continued to grow and become the leader she is, which led her into the captain’s role. She truly is going to be missed. She shows the same passion in field hockey as I do. I’m really looking forward to her continuing her career at the next level. I know she said she was going to be a college athlete, so I continued to support her and watched her grow into the athlete that she is today.”
