Corey Kelly – Ursinus College (Football/Lacrosse)

Major:  Education

Final list of schools: Ursinus, Millersville, Albright

Reasons for choosing Ursinus:  “I felt it fit me with the distance and everything. Also, I felt the whole coaching staff really pushed for me to come there, so it showed they really wanted me. That was probably the biggest thing. The coach literally picked me up from my house to show me the school.”

What was the progression that led you to playing both football and lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “The football coach saw I was wearing a lacrosse shirt and said, ‘You play lacrosse too?’ The lacrosse coach from Ursinus had a couple of notes on me.
“I was thinking about playing college sports since I came into PW. I always wanted to play college sports, but it’s going to be tough playing two sports time management-wise.”

PW lacrosse coach Phil Chang says:  “I’ve coached Corey for seven seasons – he’s played four years varsity lacrosse and three years varsity football, so I’ve gotten to know him extremely well. He’s the type of kid that you want to represent your program. He has a great work ethic. He has the type of drive and motivation that you can’t coach. He has this great passion to succeed and be great at everything he does. A kid like Corey just needs a little bit of instruction, and he is motivated to do it on his own and make himself a great player.”

PW football coach Dan Chang says:  “Corey is one of the types of kids you build your program around. He’s a kid who would run through a brick wall for you. Anything you would ask him to do, he would gladly do it, and you knew without a doubt he would give everything he had. He’s a guy that during football season we would go to anytime we needed a play – if we needed to count on somebody, we would give the ball to Corey. He’s also been our emotional leader. Anyone who watches the game can see that he loves to play, he loves to compete and he loves to be a teammate. As a person, Corey is a guy you couldn’t ask more from. He juggles a lot of things in his life and finds time to be successful at all those things.”

Ryan Kelly – Tusculum College (Lacrosse)

Reasons for choosing Tusculum:  “This is the only school I applied to. I was originally planning to go to Montco, but when the offer came through to play lacrosse, I couldn’t let it go by. The coach started the Chestnut Hill College program, so he’s from the area, and he knows people here through summer camps. He heard about me and got my contact information.”

When did the idea of playing collegiate lacrosse become a reality?  “At the end of the season, I was like ‘I don’t want this to be my last season playing lacrosse.’ It was all very recent. I heard from the coach of Tusculum earlier in the year, but I didn’t get back to him right away. When the season started coming to an end, that’s when I started figuring out that’s what I wanted to do.”

PW lacrosse coach Phil Chang says:  “Ryan has improved vastly since ninth grade. He started as a backup on our jayvee ‘B’ team as a ninth grader. To his credit, he really committed himself to playing lacrosse. He practiced all year round, and he played summer lacrosse. Last year he played a little bit for us, but this year, he really came into his own role and became a huge contributor for our team. It’s been really a testament to his work ethic that has gotten him to where he his today. He’s continually improving, and I hope he can make an impact at Tusculum.”
