Austin Betterly – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Soccer)

Major:  Mechanical Engineering

Final list of colleges:  RPI, Elizabethtown, King’s College, Stevens Institute of Technology

Reasons for choosing RPI:  “The respect from the academic standpoint because the other schools were quality schools, but I felt like I would have the most opportunities going to a school like RPI. What made it all come together was soccer.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “After my freshman year, coach Landgraff sent me to the club team that I am now on. He said, ‘You’re a good player, and if you continue to get better, it could turn into a scholarship, it could turn into collegiate opportunities.” That kind of drove me and opened the door. I’ve been trying ever since.”

Coach Devon Landgraff:  “Austin is an extremely dynamic athlete with amazing speed and footwork to match. His leadership and dedication to the program over the past few years on and off the field has been remarkable.”
