Frankie O’Brien – Hofstra University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Global Studies/Secondary Education

Final list of colleges:  Hofstra, Georgetown, La Salle

Reasons for choosing Hofstra:  “Hofstra was the perfect fit for my academic needs. They have a global studies program and many clubs that go along with the major. Athletically, I love the competitive feeling I get when playing in their various camps and clinics. After visiting, there was not a doubt in my mind that I wanted to play field hockey for Hofstra.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “My mom signed me up for WRA field hockey in fourth grade. Ever since then, I fell in love with the sport. In sixth grade, I started playing club for WC Eagles, and from that point on, I realized that I would do whatever it takes to play hockey in college.
“I want to thank the Hofstra coaches for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I owe a huge thank you to my coaches and teammates that helped me with this process and my progression as a player. My WC Eagles coaches are a huge part of the reason I’m here today. Lastly, I owe special thank you to my high school coaches Charise Halteman and Marianne Paparone - both taught me so much about myself as a player on and off the field and have helped me with the recruiting process immensely.”

Coach Charise Halteman says:  "Frankie has been an awesome athlete to coach, and it has been a privilege to coach her and watch her grow over the last four years. She started her career as a talented freshman with good skills, but she has matured and developed into a confident leader who not only has great skills but understands the game. Her competitive spirit and drive to succeed helped carry our team to an undefeated league championship this fall. I have no doubt that she will become a valuable member of the Hofstra program. Her presence will be greatly missed on Victory fields, but her example and commitment to the program will serve as a model for years to come!"
