Mike Orensky – Chestnut Hill College (Baseball)

Major:  Exercise Science

Final list of colleges:  Chestnut Hill, Slippery Rock, East Stroudsburg

Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill:  “I chose CHC because it was a small school, and being in a small classroom, the professor would know who I am. And I also chose Chestnut Hill to pursue my dream of playing baseball in college.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “Basically, what led me to play baseball at the collegiate level would be my coaches and my friends and family members.”

Coach Chris Manero says: “Mike is a kid who came to us in 10th grade when he moved from Roxborough, so we didn’t have a chance to work with him when he was real young, but he jumped right in. He was one that notably right away took advantage of all the opportunities that we offered, whether it was weightlifting, fall baseball, everything. It’s really helped him develop into a very coachable and a genuinely hard-working kid. As I watched him over the summer, I see his approach at the plate, I see him working on changing his swing with two strikes – just doing all the things we worked with him on for the last three years. I think, again, going to the college level you’re going to have to learn how to make adjustments, and watching how he did that as a player the last three years tells me again he’s ready to adjust his game to the next level. He was a kid who in our postseason run really had a monster second half of the season for us. When the stakes got higher, he got better, so that should bode well for him as he moves on.”
