PW's Reardon & Spera Commit to Play Collegiate Field Hockey

Kennedy Reardon, a two-year captain, was named first team All-SOL American Conference after helping lead the Colonials to a 14-0 conference record and their sixth straight championship. A midfielder, Reardon scored 17 goals and added nine assists. For her career, Reardon scored 58 goals and assisted on 16 others. She was second team all-state as a junior.
Sam Spera, a team captain, was named first team All-SOL American Conference for the third straight season. She also was named first team all-state as a junior. A midfielder, she scored 17 goals and added eight assists. For her career, Spera scored 43 goals and assisted on 29 others.
"Kennedy and Sam have been truly great representatives of PW field hockey, and I am so proud of their commitments to take their skill and passion for the game to the next level,” coach Charise Halteman said. “Both Kennedy and Sam have worked hard during the season and the offseason to become better athletes and students of the game; they will transition nicely to the DI level. Our team will miss their enthusiasm, leadership, and skill next season, but we know they will continue to make our program proud,"

Reasons for choosing Indiana:  “I chose Indiana for the incredible academic and athletic opportunities. Not only do I see myself growing and thriving in field hockey, but in my studies as well. While visiting, I fell in love with the atmosphere of the team and the entire campus. Additionally, I knew the Big Ten would be able to provide the intense playing atmosphere that I have been striving to play in.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started playing field hockey in fifth grade and joined WC Eagles in sixth grade. By eighth grade, I knew that field hockey wasn’t just a hobby but a passion. I realized I wanted to elevate myself to the next level. I started the recruiting process in eighth grade by attending camps, clinics and showcase tournaments.”
Coach Charise Halteman says:  “Kennedy is a strong and fearless athlete who provided our team with vocal leadership. Her understanding of the game and win-at-all-cost attitude helped set the tone and direction for out team this year.”

Sam Spera – Hofstra University (Field Hockey)

Reasons for choosing Hofstra:  “Hofstra displayed a perfect combination of athletics and academics. The Hofstra field hockey team and coaching staff is a team to admire with their dedication and passion for the sport. Hofstra also offers a ton of academic opportunities. After visiting Hofstra a few times, it became clear that I wanted to further my education (there) as a student-athlete.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started my college recruiting process my sophomore year by attending showcases as well as college camps/clinics. Over the years, I have watched many college athletes and have talked to a few college coaches. These experiences inspired me to be a college athlete.”
Coach Charise Halteman says:  “Sam was a fast and dynamic athlete who was a creative playmaker for our team. Her intensity and work rate were second to none, and she set a great example for our team.”
