Brittny Buonanno-Taylor – Delaware Valley College (Basketball)

Major:  Secondary Education

Final list of colleges:  Delaware Valley, DeSales

Reasons for choosing Delaware Valley:  “When I went to the Accepted Students Day, I received better information for my major, and I liked the feeling better.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I always wanted to play basketball in college. Then I got diagnosed with cancer, and I thought my dream had disappeared. I still wanted to try my best though and make a team, and I was able to go to Delaware Valley.”

Coach Greg Swavely says:  “Brittny is just a study in courage and determination. She’s had a lot of things thrown at her, but her love of basketball has kept her going. I think Brittny realizes the quality program coach (Laura) Hogan runs, and I think Brittny can bring some of the intangibles to that team in terms of leadership, courage and determination.
“Brittany has a great jump shot. She’s one of the best pure shooters I’ve seen. Unfortunately, unless you watched her play basically her freshman year, you didn’t really get to see the full form. We could see that with time she was going to develop into a real accurate shooter from the outside but got real sidetracked with the illness, but even so, once a shooter, always a shooter. You could tell even in her sickness she could still shoot the ball. I would often have opposing coaches come up to me and say, ‘Brittny really is a good shooter.’ That’s a testament to her and all that she stands for. I think as time goes on and she gets stronger and gets that energy back, I think there’s a role for Brittny to definitely play. If she can develop that shot for the college level, she could really make a difference. I’m proud of both of them. I’m looking for four good years from them.”

Kathryne Vetter – Delaware Valley College (Basketball)

Major:  Accounting

Final list of colleges:  Delaware Valley, Holy Cross (IN), St. Mary’s, Mary Baldwin

Reasons for choosing Delaware Valley:  “The campus is absolutely beautiful. I like the small class sizes that have hands-on learning. I like the coach and the basketball program that is available there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I wanted to play basketball in college ever since I started playing basketball in fourth grade. The recruiting process started when I was at the end of my 10th grade year playing in AAU. Most of the recruiting process started from playing AAU.”

About Kathryne:
Favorite food:
Buffalo Style Chicken Dip
Favorite movies:  Bridesmaids and Forrest Gump
Favorite music:  “I really like all types of music besides country.”

Coach Greg Swavely says:  “Kathryne came back from a torn ACL and actually played her senior year on another torn ACL. She actually tore it right before the season, but she was able to play on it. When the season was over, she had surgery, and she is doing very well. It was quite a testament to her courage and strength to be able to play on that, especially as a point guard getting bumped around every night.
“Kathryne was a four-year varsity player. She really developed into a team leader. It was amazing from her freshman year to her senior year how good a dribbler she became. Literally, nobody could take the ball from her this past year when she had it. A couple of games we were up late, and she was real steady with the ball. I have to think what could have been if she had been able to have a full year last year to work on other parts of her game, such as her shooting. I think she’s going to be a late bloomer for college, and I think Del Val is a great fit for her. To coach (Laura) Hogan’s credit, she stayed with her this year through her injuries. I think that’s a great program for Kathryne to continue to develop and become a complete college player.”
