Bridget Campion – Kutztown University (Competitive Cheerleading)

Major: Education

Final list of colleges:  Kutztown, West Chester, Millersville, East Stroudsburg, Cedar Crest

Reasons for choosing Kutztown:  “I get really homesick, to be honest, and it’s not far from my house. It was actually one of the colleges I didn’t want to go to, but the more and more I went, the more I started to fall in love with it, and I realized this is where I wanted to go. I loved the campus. I already have some friends on the cheer team, and I’m just really excited to go there.”

What was the progression that led you to continue your competitive cheerleading career at the collegiate level?  “I was back and forth on it. I was like, ‘I don’t really know if I want to do it’ because it really does take up a lot of time. Cheer isn’t just two months out of the year. It’s the entire year, and it’s usually every day, so you have to put so much time into it. I thought about my life without it, and I can’t picture my life without it, so I decided to try out for the team.”

Coach Carrie Maha says:  “We’ve had Bridget for the past four years – she made varsity as a freshman, which doesn’t really happen. She has been very competitive for us – I would have to say honestly she is one of the most talented on the team. If you’re familiar with gymnastics, she has a full and has our only full. She was recruited by Kutztown last year, and we’re like, ‘No, no, no, she’s still ours for one more year.’ She tried out for the team – you have to try out, and she made it. We’re really excited for her to do very well, and we get to watch her – their team goes to nationals as well. We go to regionals at Kutztown, so we’re excited to know a college athlete there to assist us. We’re just excited for Bridget to move on, but we’re going to miss her because she’s really talented.”
