Tori Caputo – Elizabethtown College (Softball)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Elizabethtown, DeSales, King’s, Penn State (Club)

Reasons for choosing Elizabethtown:  “The feel of the campus – I had a clinic there, and that was the first time I was on the campus. I had been in communication with the coach in the past, but as soon as I walked on campus – that’s what I wanted out of college. I knew this was the place that I was going to. Everybody talks about that feeling when they step on their college campus for the first time and they fall in love with it. That was the definitely the feeling I got.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “Around eighth grade I started thinking about playing college because I started thinking about high school and how far I wanted to go. I remember my first Senior Night freshman year – I realized I didn’t want it to be Senior Night and just end there. I wanted to continue on.”

Coach Dave Scott says:  “I have known Tori for a couple of years. I knew the kid was competitive, but I don’t think I knew how much. Before the start of the season, we had a little skills competition. The old guy won. I’ve never seen a student-athlete be as sulky as Tori was. To her parents, I apologize because I’m sure she was miserable that night. Why is that relevant? Because it’s the killer instinct and the highly competitive attitude that Tori brings to everything she does. She’s one of the hardest working players on the team, and she wants to do better at every single thing she tries to do, whether it’s pitching or working out during the winter or her academics. You can always tell as a coach when you have a player who wants to do better. Tori is always fully engaged, she’s always looking at me eye to eye. She’s always asking questions – What can I do better? How can I do this skill better? What do I need to do to get better? Those traits are going to take you far. Elizabethtown is getting a good one here. I can’t wait to see what the next four years hold for Tori.”
