Domenic DeFalco – Campbell University (Wrestling)

Major:  Criminal Justice Administration

Reasons for choosing Campbell:  “The coaches really care for me and are excited to help me reach my goals.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in wrestling at the collegiate level?  “I always had dreams about being a college athlete, and once I got into high school, I realized that I have the talent and work ethic to succeed at the collegiate level. I started receiving letters as well as coaches reaching out to me via social media at the beginning of my junior year.”

Coach Kurt Handel says:  “Domenic DeFalco has been part of the Quakertown wrestling team the past four years. Dom is a generational wrestler. We had our first state qualifier in Quakertown wrestling in 1981 – 40 years ago. Only three wrestlers in that time frame have been a state qualifier four years in a row. Domenic is the third. There are only two other wrestlers that were able to have that accomplishment. Hats off to you, Dom.

“Dom has been consistent all four years with us. He has a record of 132 wins and only 42 losses, and that’s fourth on our all-time career wins category. On top of being fourth in career wins, he’s fourth also in career pins at 71, which is a very hard task to accomplish in four years. Dom has some incredible records. He was a four-year first team all-league wrestler and is an incredible athlete on the mats. What’s impressive about Dom is off the mat as well. Dom was a distinguished honor roll student. He was a three-time all-academic team member. They don’t put freshmen on the PA All-Academic team, so that’s why it was only three times.

“Speaking about Dom’s character, he was a team captain for three years. As sophomore being a team captain, it doesn’t happen, it’s very rare. That’s why Dom is a rare athlete in our sport. I was so fortunate to be able to say I was his coach. He has incredible accolades athletically and academically, but Dom’s character is tops. Dom came to me last year and said, ‘My little neighbor is battling cancer. He’s in remission, and I want him to come and join the team. I was all for it. Dom made all the arrangements. We made a special night for Cam and recognized him, but all that happened because Dom – who is one of the most caring young men you’re going to meet – wanted to do something special for his neighbor who was going through some very difficult times. That just speaks to Dom’s character. Dom, I wish you the best of luck at Campbell University. I know you’re going to do well and turn heads there too. Thank you for giving us four awesome years.”
