Bekah Evans – Cheyney University (Track & Field)

Major:  Elementary Education

Final list of colleges:  Cheyney, East Stroudsburg, IUP, Felician, Bloomfield, Millersville

Reasons for choosing Cheyney:  “My last visits were East Stroudsburg and Cheyney University. When I was talking to East Stroudsburg, the head coach moved to California, and she was the main reason I wanted to go to East Stroudsburg. Then I went to Cheyney, and I just really loved the atmosphere of the track team because it was like a sisterhood and brotherhood, and that’s what it’s like here at Quakertown, so I definitely wanted the same atmosphere. I love the track coach. She’s amazing. She’s a young, energetic coach that is really ready to go and get a championship, and I loved her mentality because I have the same mentality as her.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track and field at the collegiate level?  “I always knew I wanted to run track in college, but I wasn’t getting as many looks because when I came into high school, I was a 100 and 200 runner, and I wasn’t really getting looked at a lot. My junior year my coaches told me I should be a 400 runner, so I switched my main event to the 400 last year, and that’s when I started getting recruited by a lot of schools. Definitely last year is when I changed my mentality and started working harder to get the times that the coaches were looking for.”

Coach Jason Anderson says:  “Bekah has been on the track team for four years, and her desire and dedication has really pulled her through. Four years is a long time to do any one thing, and Bekah’s been consistent. It’s really exciting to see her going on to the next level, using athletics as a way to maximize her experience. We’re really proud of Bekah, and we’re also proud of the dedication she’s put in.”
