Cooper Johnson – King’s College (Baseball)

Major:  Computer Science

Final list of colleges:  King’s College, Penn State Harrisburg, Hood College

Reasons for choosing King’s:  “Smaller college that is not far from home and a good computer science program.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “It always had been a goal of mine to play at the collegiate level. The recruiting process started in the past year through my travel team, the PA Schockers.”

Coach Jon Pallone says:  “Every year it seems like we have a left-handed pitcher on our pitching staff that leads the way for our team, and this year Cooper took that role and really excelled with it. He threw the most innings of any pitcher on our team this year and had the lowest ERA. Batters hit just .190 against him because he would pitch to contact. By effectively changing speeds and staying low, hitters had a tough time making contact. His velocity has increased a lot since last season, and he also improved his ability to hold on runners, which helped him when they did get on base.
“This season Cooper pitched well in our wins against Tennent, CB West, CB East, Souderton and Hatboro-Horsham. In the CB West and Hatboro games, he didn’t give up an earned run but still didn’t get credit for the win. He also threw consecutive shutouts against CB East and Souderton and then followed it up with zero earned runs in seven innings in a game against Hatboro-Horsham in a game that ended up being 11 innings that we won. The East game that he threw a shutout was a two-hitter and the Souderton game was a one-hitter. Those are pretty impressive pitching stats, especially in our league - one of the toughest leagues in the state.
“In his years at Quakertown, Cooper has always been a good teammate. He’s not always the most vocal, but he does always do the right thing. In the dugout and on the field, Cooper always supports his teammates, and his presence on the mound instills confidence in his teammates. Cooper has had a great senior season and anchored our pitching staff. I’m happy to see Cooper commit to King’s, and I look forward to seeing him continue on his rise to success.”
