Alyssa Lamberson – Temple University (Cheerleading)

Major:  Early Childhood Education

Reasons for choosing Temple:  “Close to home, good teaching program and opportunities.”

What was the progression that led you to joining a cheer team at the collegiate level?  “At first I actually was not going to cheer in college. Eventually, the more the I thought about it not being in my life anymore, the more upset I became and decided that I was going to continue because it makes me happy.”

Coach Carrie Maha says:  “I had the pleasure of coaching Alyssa for the last three years. We would have liked to have her try out for the team freshman year, but she wanted to feel out high school. We’re really proud to have her the last three years. Within the last three years, Quakertown cheerleading has done so well, beaten all the records in Quakertown history. This year she was part of the team that got a first place win in districts for the first time ever. Also, two years in a row we were Suburban One champions, and two years in a row, Alyssa was named first team all-league, which is really hard to do. This year she was one of our awesome captains who led our team to not only cheer at competitions and all the football games but also inspired the other girls. Also, this is the first year Quakertown got as far as it did in states – we got sixth in the state, which was pretty cool. Not only is she an amazing leader, but she’s also an amazing gymnast, and she’s one of our point flyers. To make the Temple team, we don’t have scouts that watch us during the year. She actually had to try out not only against the incoming freshmen, but she had to try out against last year’s sophomores and last year’s juniors, and it’s really hard to make a team like that. I hope when you watch a Temple, you’ll look at the sidelines and see this little girl flying up there and say, ‘I know her. She went to Quakertown.’ We just want to wish Alyssa the best of luck in her cheerleading future. We’ll miss her, and she’s also welcome back as one of our cheerleader alumni any time.”
