Jordan Smith – Delaware Valley University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Media and Communications

Final list of colleges:  Delaware Valley, Arcadia, Georgian Court, Villanova

Reasons for choosing Delaware Valley:  “I decided on Del Val because it’s a growing program just like Quakertown is, so I feel I could have a big role just like I did at Quakertown. Since it’s a young program, we have a lot of room to grow. I would love to take it to the NCAA championships. I think it’s a winnable conference. They just had their first year, and coach (Greg) Mercadante definitely has some good ideas, and he could definitely help me grow as a person and a player.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “When I was in ninth grade, I started taking lacrosse more seriously. A couple of my friends said, ‘You should play in college,’ but I disregarded it because I was just a freshman and I didn’t really take into consideration the possibilities that I had.
“Once I hit my sophomore season, that’s when I started getting into my club lacrosse in the summer, and that’s all about recruiting and that’s when coaches can start talking to you. At the end of my junior season and the start of senior year, I took into consideration where I wanted to go and what possibilities I had.”

Coach Greg Chaples says:  “I had the pleasure of coaching Jordan Smith during our inaugural season of the boys’ lacrosse team this spring. We were unsure what to expect this season, and I knew from the beginning that we would need the experienced players to step up and be leaders.
“From day one, Jordan did just that. Jordan’s ability to inspire his teammates and lead by example comes naturally. I have no doubt this will serve him well in whatever path he follows. I look forward to following his collegiate career at Del Val, and I have no doubt he will be a contributor to their lacrosse program.”
