Joel Welliver – East Stroudsburg University (Track & Field)

Major:  Digital Media and Technology

Final list of colleges:  East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg

Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg:  “I’m going to East Stroudsburg because the coach there contacted me multiple times asking me if I wanted to run for him. I decided after long thought that I’d like to go there and run for them.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track and field at the collegiate level?  “After sophomore year when I started to score points for the high school team, I (realized) that I was actually good at what I do, and I started to put in the work after school during practice.”

Coach John Farrell says:  “Joel is one of those rare athletes that leaves his ego in the locker room. He’s not a superstar in one particular event – he does every one well, and every day before a meet, he’d say, ‘What am I doing this week, coach?’ We would change it up all the time. When he’s injured, he comes out and he coaches the kids. He will do very well. Hopefully, he’ll be able to pick one of those events and specialize because he’s a very good athlete, and he’ll go far.”
