Alyssa Wilkinson – Elizabethtown College (Softball)

Major:  Accounting

Final list of colleges:  Elizabethtown, Towson, East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg

Reasons for choosing Elizabethtown:  “The small town feel, the campus is beautiful, my major has great professors, and the coach is so inspirational.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “I have been dreaming of playing as I followed players when I watch collegiate softball on TV. This past year I came to realize that I wanted to play Division III so I could focus on my academics as well. Overall, playing softball my whole life has prepared me for collegiate ball.”

Coach Rich Scott says:  “Alyssa has been pitching varsity softball for us since she was a sophomore, and we go way back long before that – back to t-ball and travel. She’s pitched a lot for us as a travel team player. The pitcher on the team is one of the most important players on the field. You can have the best shortstop, the best second baseman, the best center fielder in the world, but if you don’t have a great pitcher, you’re not going to win many games.
“This year we finished first in the Continental Conference, which is very, very good. Our league is a very tough league. Every single game, every single team we play in our league is a playoff caliber team as evidenced by the score of every game. Alyssa has pitched in almost every single one of those tough games. She finished the year 12-4. She pitched a gem of a game against CB South in a pitcher’s dual. A couple of the teams we play have two pitchers that they’ll pitch. Alyssa pitched all seven in every game almost. Against CB South, Alyssa pitched the whole game, and we ended up winning the game in the bottom of the seventh by a 2-1 score. She’s very determined, and she works very hard in the offseason. A lot of sports do that, but pitchers have to do it double time. They have to work at hitting, pitching. Most Wednesday nights you could find her in the Quakertown Elementary gym pitching with her pitching coach. She put in a lot of work, and I wish her the best of luck going to Elizabethtown College.”
