Ashlee Ruzicka – Lycoming College (Basketball)

Major:  Secondary Education – English

Final list of colleges:  Lycoming, Wilkes, Keystone, Albright, Centenary

Reasons for choosing Lycoming:  “I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the small classes. I was able to sit in on a class, and with the size being only 20 students per professor, it was really nice to have the individuality and the one-on-one and really be able to get to know your professors.
“As for the basketball, I really enjoyed the communication and the selflessness of the team, and you could tell they appreciated each and every one of them on the court.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate basketball?  “I’ve known since my sophomore year I wanted to play in college. My parents both played sports, and basketball was always my passion. I gave up my other sports for it, and I began seeing a shooting coach to help with my specific skills around my sophomore year. He put the idea in my head that I really should be looking to play further than the high school level.”

Coach Brittany Remmey says:  “I only had the pleasure of coaching Ashlee for one year, but her positivity and her leadership – she was the only senior on our team until the end of the season, but her dedication outshone everybody. She came to everything during the offseason. She was our leading rebounder and leading scorer for the team. She did a lot of things. We’re going to miss her on and off the court. I know she’s going to be a big presence in the paint at Lycoming. Ashlee is a very good student as well, so I have no doubt she’ll be successful.”
